How to Secure a Post in a Flower Pot to Hang Bistro Lights

Bistro lights are a great way to add light to your outdoor space. Outdoor lighting is an important consideration if you’re wanting to enjoy your outdoor space anytime after sunset. Patios that have bistro lights hanging up is so enchanting and I was excited to finally have a spot for that at our new house. I wanted a cafe flower pot look for my light poles, so I decided to create it myself.

In this tutorial, I will show you a step-by-step on how to create a way to string up your bistro lights. Please enjoy this tutorial and I know you can do this, especially with me explaining my own mistakes.

Supplies

Step 1

There are lots of different ways you can hold string lights! Posts in the ground, kits on amazon . . . etc. I wanted it a little prettier so I’m putting my posts in a half barrell. The barrel planters are from Home Depot. I also got a 5 gallon bucket, concrete and some posts there as well.

Step 2

You will need to get the concrete ready. I made a mistake and did not put any concrete on the bottom of my barrel. This should be the first. You will need to add concrete, water, then mix. Repeat this until you have about 6 inches on the bottom. Place the bucket in the middle of the barrel to let it harden.  The reason you do this is to make sure your pole will not bend when the heavy lights pull on it.

Step 3

Add concrete and water to your bucket and mix. I filled the bucket until there was about 3 inches left at the top. You will then put the post in and make sure it is level. I let them set overnight.

Step 4

After the concrete is set, you put in your potting soil! Then you plant whatever plants you want. I got some lavender which smells so good!

Step 5

Hang up lights however you want to!

It is that easy!!! You can do this! We decided on these awesome lights from Enbrighten. I love the look of them! They are weatherproof and last year round! There is a cheaper style as well that does not change colors. Here is that link
